 uconnseal.gif"Welcome...

...to the official website of the University of Connecticut Running Club. The club was founded in 2005 by a group of students looking to organize a club to serve the interests of retired high school athletes and other runners in the University community. Today, the club's goal is to promote healthy lifestyles both at UCONN and also throughout the State of Connecticut. Thank you for visiting, and we hope to see you out running!"

Adventure Race
RunUC sent two teams to the UCONN Outdoors Adventure Race on April 13. This event tested racers with an unrivaled amount of sweat, mud, mental and physical prowess. To succeed in the Adventure Race, teams had to paddle, run, crawl, and problem solve their way through the diabolical course at Mansfield’s own Schoolhouse Brook Park.
Teams consisted of three individuals and were co-recreational.

One of RunUC's teams, "Tossed Salad," finished the race in first place with a time of 1 hour, 42 minutes, 42 seconds. RunUC's other team placed 10th. Good job RunUC!

UCONN Running Club Runs NIRCA Track Meets
Over the last two weekends, the UCONN Running Club (the competitive division of RunUC) competed at two NIRCA track meets. The first of these races was held at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA, and the second was held at the University of Michigan, Detroit. UCONN was very successful at both of these meets. In Detroit, the UCONN women took first place overall, and the men took second.

RunUC Gets a Coach for Spring Season
RunUC now has a coach to help us train for our spring season. Terrence Abney, a hall director from the Hilltop housing complex, and an avid runner, will be helping run weekly or biweekly workouts for competitive RunUC runners this spring. He has had siginificant running experience himself, and has also helped coach other teams. We will be having workouts with Terrence on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays for the rest of the semester. Please check Facebook for speicifc workout times.

RunUC Races in Virginia!
RunUC raced at the James Madison University Cross Country Invitational last weekend. As a member of NIRCA, the National Intercollegiate Running Club Association (www.clubrunning.org), RunUC participates in cross country races all around the country. This race was the frist NIRCA race of the year, and was held at Burtner Farm in Harrisonburg, VA. The course was a challenging hilly one on mostly grass, and the weather was hazy, hot, and humid. Given the conditions, RunUC performed very well, and is looking forward to the next NIRCA race we will be participating in on October 20 at the University of Pennsylvania.
